Review
I have wanted to do a Game Review for quite a while now, just to voice my opinion on one. So I decided, why not write it on my favourite game series? So out of the series I have chosen my favourite instalment; Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. This game was such a big step up from its predecessors. I am going to discuss its good points and bad points, and how it differs from the previous titles Assassin’s Creed & Assassin’s Creed II, and of course, my opinion on the changes. This may contain SPOILERS, so tread carefully.
So, without anymore suspense, here we go.
When I first heard of this game, I thought to myself “Ahh, this is just gonna be some DLC or a Multiplayer game without a main story”. But was I wrong. It actually turned out to be one of the biggest turning points in the story of Desmond, the main protagonist. After researching the game I felt like what I can only describe as a hardcore Westlife fan who just met its members. I was extremely excited.
When I finally got the game, I was sucked right into it. My first giddy moment was when, in combat, you can combo-kill. This is where when you take down one target you can immediately take down another, then another and so on without the need of whittling away at their HP. I felt awesome. The next newest feature that also made me produce an unpronounceable noise of glee is the ability to shoot an enemy with your Hidden Gun that you impaled with your sword, without wasting ammo. Oh, and the Assassin’s that you can call out to do your dirty work? It was just so handy, especially when faced with multiple Heavy Soldiers with Battle-Axes.
Now, I could probably spend all day writing about the new features and tactics, so I’ll try not to. I just have to discuss the setting; Rome. I loved its open world, the Colosseum, and the fast-travel tunnels. The only problem for me was, it was way too low cut. By this I mean that there were low buildings and wide open spaces where a climbing escape is extremely difficult after a quick assassination. And there were the odd tall building for a Viewpoint but it didn’t stand up to those of the cities in Assassins Creed, or even the second game. I was let down by the map, but the horses in the city was a great addition. I know, I said I’d try to avoid the new features. But let’s be honest, how can I? The game is packed full of them. The Parachute was incredibly handy, because of my clumsiness to jump sideways or backwards off of the Castella or Colosseum, or any other building high enough to let gravity do its deathly damage. Often, I’d forget to switch to fists to use the ‘chute, and plummet to my death while mashing buttons. But still a good addition.
The story, the MAIN part of my review was thrilling. It seemed some parts were repetitive of the previous games but other than that, it was action filled. I especially loved the breaks from Ezio and getting to control our modern Assassin, Desmond. Mainly around Monteriggioni, a small town in Tuscany, which was home to Ezio’s family in the Renaissance.
Overall, this game is amazing and mind blowing. I say to anyone who enjoys a good sandbox game with stealth to try any Assassins Creed game. It’s like Prince of Persia had a child with Metal Gear Solid. Have to say it’s worth 4 Stars!
