Nokia Lumia 900

Overview:
Nokia was the leading cellphone manufacturer in the world and has dominated that field for decades. That is until the era of the smartphones wherein phones were no longer just about calling and texting added with a few special features such as a walkman.

When the smarphones came this created a whole new battlefield for Nokia since smartphones were shown to be able to do them all while Nokia phones were only saying that they can do only this.

It didn’t take long and the Android vs Apple era dominated the smartphone industry which left Nokia the market that either didn’t have enough money for a smartphone or already had a smartphone and was just looking for an extra phone.

But since the Lumia 800 came into the scene Nokia seems to have been able to capture some of their old customers and with the Lumia 900 it seems that Nokia plans to do even more in the smartphone battlefield.

Features:
The Lumia 900 is almost the same as the Lumia 800 but with a few differences; of course there should be some differences or else we wouldn’t buy this right? One difference is the bigger screen of the Lumia 900. The Lumia 900 has a 4.3 inch AMOLED Gorilla Glass display. Sounds rugged but is actually very smooth and good to touch.

The massive 4.3 inch screen has an 800×480 resolution together with the Lumia 800’s ClearBlack technology. The graphics produced are detailed and clear, no blurry edges as compared to other below standard smartphones.

Other similarities include the camera and volume control, microUSB and 3.5mm jack at the same places. Another difference aside from the size would be the 1MP front facing camera for video conferences. The rear camera is set at 720p 30fps resolution with Carl Zeiss Tessar optics and a wide angle lens.

Nokia in the past has always produced the best hardware but not the ideal software. The proof for their hardware may be heard from people that have used a Nokia phone; most of them will claim that a Nokia phone will certainly survive the harshest users and still work like new.

The only problem is the lack of apps and software, but now this problem may be solved due to the Lumia 900 having a Windows Mobile 7.5 OS. The Windows Mobile 7.5 OS that the Lumia 900 has also provides 512MB of RAM and a 1.4GHz Scorpion processor.

All other standard connections are present such as WiFi, USB 2.0, Bluetooth and GPS. These things really have turned to be a standard for any smartphone in the market.

Performance:
There were no apparent problems when using the Nokia Lumia 900. Opening apps takes a little loading time but once the apps are open there were no headache inducing stutters that were showing up. Of course loading apps will really take some time; I have yet to see any smartphone or PC out there that instantly opens up without any loading time any kind of app or software that’s more than simple.

The browser drags a bit when zooming in but does fix itself right away. This zooming in problem usually only comes when there are big images or full websites to load but when loading mobile websites and text only there are no problems when zooming in.

As for the games there seems to be no problem loading the currently present games. However there isn’t really a big list of possible games to play on a Windows phone.

Verdict:
The Nokia Lumia 900 ranks a 4.65 out of 5 on the smartphone scale. Now let’s look at what gives the Lumia 900 such a high score.

First of all is the sleek design that’s definitely easy to hold and fun to carry around. The second is the sturdy hardware that Nokia is well known for. The third is the high potential that the Windows Mobile OS has. The fourth is the nice flow of the software from home screen to a loaded app.

The fourth and probably the most important is the great comeback that Nokia has done in order to recapture the mobile phone market. The only deductions would come from the lack of applications available and the slightly lagging web browser.

If you’re looking for a breather from the Android and Apple battle then this might be what you are looking for. The Lumia 900 may not have all the apps that Android and Apple offers but this smartphone still has a lot to offer for the affordable price tag.
